So what are GMO’s? GMOs, or “genetically modified organisms,” are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses or other plants and animals. These experimental combinations of genes from different species cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding.
Virtually all commercial GMOs are engineered to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. Despite biotech industry promises, none of the GMO traits currently on the market offer increased yield, drought tolerance, enhanced nutrition, or any other consumer benefit.
Meanwhile, a growing body of evidence connects GMOs with health problems, environmental damage and violation of farmers’ and consumers’ rights. (NonGMOProject)
I don’t think this could have come at a better time than breast cancer awareness month! GMO’s are liked to breast cancer, organ failure, and tumors (if you have a weak stomach don’t look at this link) this is just a drop in the bucket as to the damage that GMO’s cause. It’s time that we as Americans stand up for what is right and stand up against a government that is allowing us to be poisoned for no other reason than they can.
I-522 could change the way our food is labeled but we need everyone’s help to make it happen!!
In a few short weeks Washington voters will have a historic opportunity to make labeling of genetically engineered food a reality by voting yes on I-522, the GMO labeling initiative. If you have care about eating healthy, the environment, and our right to know what we are feeding our families, we need your help to reach these voters on this critical issue!
Labeling GMO foods is one of the first important steps we need to take to protect our right to know what we are buying and eating and move forward towards a healthier, more sustainable food system. Despite polls showing 93% of Americans want GMO food labeled, giant chemical and junk food companies like Monsanto are trying to buy this election by pouring millions of dollars into a deceptive ad campaign to confuse voters.
I-522 is very important to me because I feel if my family had a better understanding of what they have been eating and how they have been poisoned for years than some of my family would be healthier and some would might still be alive today.
It’s important to me and to my entire family to have a better understanding of our food and our health. It’s important that we have a right to choose. If the US government is refusing to remove GMO’s from our food entirely than they should at least give us the right to have an informed decision as to what we want to eat.
Please stand with Colie’s Kitchen in an effort to tell Washington DC that we want I-522 Passed! Please Visit www.yeson522.com for more information.
