Secret Recipe Club Reveal Day: Asian Peanut Slaw

Today is Secret Recipe Club Reveal Day!! I was so excited when I found out I was given the honor of cooking in Kudos Kitchen by Renee this month. Renee is not only talented in the kitchen she is also a talented artist. She makes incredibly beautiful glasses that are artfully decorated to fit any and every event, hobby, or anything else you can imagine.
I had so much trouble narrowing down my recipe choices this month. Seriously! It was getting ridiculous. I always bring up everything I want to try in multiple tabs on my computer then start narrowing them down. When I was done narrowing I had only narrowed down to 19 recipes. 19!! 

Renee has so many wonderful recipes to choose from that it was truly a struggle.  I wanted to try (and still will) her Chicken Pot Pie Soup, Chocolate Cheesecake Cupcakes (notice the cute ant glass and tray at the bottom of the recipe! I am in love! My Mom would scream out in joy if she saw the glass and tray) Corn Fritters, and well as you can see my list could go on forever …. And ever lol.
I have made it my mission for the last few months to try things that are out of my comfort zone and use ingredients that I don’t normally use. When I saw Renee’s recipe for Asian Peanut Slaw I knew I had hit the jackpot!
This recipe is completely out of my comfort zone. The only time I cook with peanut butter is when I am making peanut butter cookies or fudge. I couldn’t wait to give it a try.
The first thing I noticed while making this recipe was how simple it was to put together. I mean its crazy simple! The second thing I noticed was how amazing the slaw dressing smelled, so much so I thought it would be great on a garden salad.
I let it sit in the refrigerator for a few hours and served it with dinner that night. WOW what a hit. I never EVER thought my family would give it a chance much less like it or maybe I should say love it. We not only ate every morsel but I got a request for more. We have already made it again as this is posting. How cool is that?

  • 1/4 cup rice wine vinegar
  • 1.5 tablespoons peanut butter (I used a natural, chunky variety) 
  • 1/2 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground clintro
  • 1/2 teaspoon dark brown sugar
  • salt and pepper to taste 
  • 1/2 bag coleslaw mix
  • chopped cilantro for garnish (if desired)


  1. In a mason jar (or other vessel with a tight fitting lid), add the first 7 ingredients and with the lid on tight, shake well to blend all the ingredients
  2. Add the slaw to a large bowl, season with salt and pepper.
  3. Pour the dressing over the coleslaw and mix well to coat all the slaw with the dressing (I think tongs work best for this)
  4. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  5. Top with the chopped cilantro and serve alongside your favorite protein.
